MEN (and when I love them the most)
I love men.
I love films.
I especially love movies that are ALL men. This probably makes me more of a man than a woman, but I drink like a man so maybe it all evens out in the end.
My mother started it. She had me watch "Force 10 From Navarone", "The Dirty Dozen", "The Magnificent Seven", "The Great Escape", and "The Searchers" when I was of a formidable age solely because she loved them. I'm sure I would have eventually found them on my own but still...she started it.
My own personal favorites are the Oceans films (yes, I like 12, in fact, due to Vincent Cassel and Albert Finney's presences, I LOVE 12), "Platoon", "Full Metal Jacket", "Aliens" (Sigourney is tougher than all the men aside from Michael Biehn), "Red Dawn", "Revenge of the Nerds", "Die Hard","Die Hard With a Vengeance", "District B-13", and my personal bellweather of all men films:
"The Hunt for Red October"
My father and I went to see this film twice at the Cinerama Dome the weekend it premiered. I have played the DVD so much it's no longer playable. I know every line of dialogue and every secondary character's name, I even read the damn book, and, if you don't know me well then take this under advisement, I rarely read anything that doesn't have even a hint of romance in it so that's saying something. When people ask me who my favorite director is, I will sometimes give them John McTeirnan's name just to see if they know who directed Hunt, Die Hard, Die Hard with a Vengenance. These days he's mostly known for being imprisoned on perjury charges but whatever...I just checked IMDB and he's got 2 projects in production.
Really this entry is just wax rhapsodic over male actors and, in particular, "The Hunt for Red October" because, well, I'm watching it on TV right now and I wanted to shout my love for every single sentence of this film.
