You know...
As a veteran of online dating, I really resent these new Match.com commercials.
I do believe there is some validity in 1 in 5 relationships now beginning online. Hell for the last 10-15 years, I've met most of my relationships, one-night stands, and dates online, however, I do still maintain persuasive powers of pull in bars.
It's a gift.
Anyway, I'm sure there's some validity in their claim, however, who the hell asks someone on their first meeting if they are fans of '80's teenage films' or whatever that asshole asks that chick in the commercial. And when she admits she loves them, is that a basis for a relationship?
I gotta tell you in my many years of online dating, I would say the most consistent questions I get are:
1.) Why are you single? (if I knew the answer to this question, I would not have an online dating profile)
2.) Why haven't you ever been married?/Why don't you have kids? (because men suck and would you like my gynecologist's phone number?)
3.) What are you? (the question that will likely turn me against you the moment you ask it btw)
4.) Tell me about yourself. (which isn't really a question but is a stupid fucking thing to ask of anyone you just met)
5.) Have you had much success with online dating? (there is not answer for this when you are speaking with someone you have met online)
I guess this is one of my more bitter dating blogs.
