New Year, New Day, Same Me (1/1/11)
That being said I hope you all had a lovely New Year's. I can't get too excited about a night that forces people to have fun. If you're not attempting to have fun every night of the year, then what kind of person are you?
Well, you're probably not an alcoholic like me but I digress.
Some thoughts about the old year and for the new year.
1.) I don't know what kind of mojo Sophia Coppola put on "Somewhere", but she incited a visceral response in me that rivals what happened to a 12-year old me seeing "Terms of Endearment" for the first time. Essentially, I cry for HOURS. It's bad.
2.) Directly after the film ended I was compelled to call my father and tell him I love him. Also, to go have a glass of red wine. My father replied that he loved me as well and then demanded to know why I was drinking wine at 12pm on a Friday. Busted.
3.) I had the greatest New Year's of my life the year I turned 21. Only one New Year has even come close and even then it wasn't as great as 1991. All the rest have either been boring, heartbreaking, and/or crushingly disappointing. Last night wasn't too bad though I'll keep the details to myself.
4.) My previous blog post a month or so ago had my worries about my kissing ability. I should be honest enough to reveal that my worries proved to be false. I can still kiss. I can still kiss well. It was THEM.
5.) How does "Empire Records" endure? Is it the casting? The writing? The music? It is rather amazing how much I enjoy it 16 years after I first saw it. Before Renee Zwelleger began to annoy me, before Rory Cochrane and Johnny Whitworth made "CSI Miami" their home, and long before I ever understood what the hell was going on with Deb.
6.) A friend of mine asked me once who would star in the movie of my life and what the story would be. I choose Liv Tyler to play me. I will always choose Liv Tyler to play me.
7.) I had the gnarliest nightmare last night about the house I'm staying at over New Year's, my childhood dog, Corkie, and a maniacal killer descending in the middle of the night from the attic of the house. I think what shook me the most was that I could feel and smell and sense my dog. I even woke up and cried because she wasn't there with me.
8.) Didn't mean to get maudlin there. I really did love my dog, Corkie, more than I could ever possibly explain. The fact that I still dream of her twenty years after her passing shows how much I still love her I guess.
9.) Now I'm crying again. Thanks a lot Sophia Coppola.
10.) As you can see, new year, new day, same old random me.
Happy New Year's y'all.
All my love.
