mid summer randomness or the blog post where I admit that I now have short hair...

So I had totally written a blog post about this being the first summer since I turned 18 years old that I've had the shortest fucking hair in the entire universe. However it was a negatively-written account, and I need to avoid negativity these days or avoid beating myself up about myself as much as possible.

Anyway, due to some bad health stuff, the entire length of my hair had to come off. It was more than 12 inches long. It was something I cherished.  It's been an adjustment to say the least. My mother is thrilled since she hates long hair and especially hates long hair on me hence why I haven't cut my hair this short since I was 18 years old.

Flashback to every month of my life from age 12 to 18:

Me:  I want to grow my hair long, Mom.
My Mom:   When you're 18, you can do what you want with your hair.

End flashback.

Anyway, here is me the night after the haircut (May 2013):

UGH.

Moving on.
I think the only book I've read on my previously blogged about list of books I want to read this summer is "Forever Too Far" by Abbi Glines, but I need to check the list.  As usual, if I write a list of books I want to read, I won't read them. There's something about a list that makes me want to procrastinate.  Also, I've been majorly distracted by Kristen Ashley's "Dream Man" and "Rock Chick" series.  I mean, so much so that I've even gone back and re-read the entire "Rock Chick" series once I finished "Rock Chick Regret".  I am dying for August when the finale "Rock Chick Revolution" is released.  Finding her books has changed my reading life. It's like when I first discovered Helen Bianchin books. I am just a reading fool for Alpha Male Romances.  Kristen Ashley has this innate ability to create a realistic community of incredibly entertaining characters.  I mean it is more than just the Alpha Male heroes (maybe it's mostly them, but still I don't want to sound as shallow as I probably am).  I highly recommend both series, but read the "Rock Chick" series first because it sets the stage for everything that occurs in the "Dream Man" and "Fire Inside" series.  Don't even get me started on the "Fire Inside" series.  Yowza. I've never even been tempted to read a motorcycle-club romance tale aside from the two I had previously read which is the "Undeniable" series by Madeline Sheehan, and I had sorta decided I was only going to read that series because I just don't think motorcycle club romances are really my thing. I digress though.

As I told a friend today, I am tempted to move to Denver after spending two months in these worlds (all the Kristen Ashley books I've read take place in Denver).

And moving on again.

I've been helping care for my dad's vegetable garden so here's some random photos from early June of fruit.
Yes, we ate all those tomatoes once they ripened.

In fact, there are even more tomatoes now in mid-July then there were in June.  In fact, I'll never get rickets ever because of all the tomatoes I've eaten in the last thirty days.  I forgot to take photos of the varied and ginormous zucchinis because, well, they're zucchinis and boring and there are SO MANY of them, but I have made several batches of bread.

This was my first attempt at an Orange Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread which was damn tasty.

My second attempt was this legendary recipe of my mother's for chocolate zucchini bread, but I forgot to take photos of it.  Next batch I'll document.

What else?

Two weeks ago on a sunny afternoon I was sitting in the dining room with my laptop reading and to my left these two random four-legged visitors came running up to the French doors. This, of course, scared the shit out of me at first because this doesn't happen often in this neighborhood (very rural), and, also, they weren't neighborhood dogs. I think in my mind when I saw something running toward the screen doors I thought it might be a huge rat or an armadillo (DILLO shout out - don't ask- it's a Twitter thing).  It was very strange indeed.  They wanted in the house in a big way which we did allow to give them some water. Then I think my mother began to panic about the addition of two strays to her home (because it was obvious I wanted to keep them), and she took off on foot with the two dogs to find their home.

Another neighbor took over because they had leashes, and we still haven't found out precisely where the random four-legged visitors came from or went to. They were damn cute.  I took these photos when I thought there was a chance I was going to have to Craigslist lost & found these suckers.

And back to my hair.

I'm stuck trying to grow out the length on the top of my head so that I can at least get a cute little bob thing which is taking a much longer time than I anticipated.  Also, I had some bald spots that had to grow out in the back so it's even more awful on the backside where I now have a MULLET. Please don't tell anyone.

Anyway, there is nothing attractive to be done with this mess except wear it back off my head which requires more mousse, gel and hairspray than I've used in the last decade. It seems like I won't be able to get a better haircut until September at this rate.

And I really, really miss my braids.

Anyway, this is me July 2013.

UGH.

happy summer'ing y'all
