Reading Paranoia...
So, I set this goal challenge for myself on Goodreads at the beginning of the year.
I set it at 150 because last year I challenged myself to like 200something and never even got close.
I've been reading like a freaking maniac for a year... Erotica, romance novels, YA contemporary, mystery, YA paranormal, trilogies (because everything is a trilogy), that goddamn Shades of Grey bullshit...
For like 4 months now it's like every time I look at the goal challenge stats, I was nowhere close to 150. It was maddening. I was beginning to despair. I really felt like I must be reading slower as I age. Seriously, reading paranoia was setting in.
This morning while I was calculating my chances of reading 31 books before the end of the year and then complaining on Twitter about it, as you do, I read the 'fine print' of the Goodreads reading challenge. It's actually not that fine. It's pretty large font and it's pretty visible. It's just that I NEVER saw it until today.
"All books must have a date read set to count towards goal." (paraphrasing)
DUDE.
I don't always set the date read. In fact, I find it so irritating because what business is it of anyone when I read a book that I have purposely NOT SET IT FOR MANY OF THE BOOKS I READ... FOR A YEAR... LONGER THAN A YEAR...EVER SINCE I JOINED GOODREADS.
Heavy sigh filled with obliviousness.
Do I feel like a jerk? A dolt? A loser? YES.
I didn't set all the books. I left off the Harlequin Romances and some other books because, whatever, I know what I read and when I read it. And, in case, you didn't know before now, I really hate the Shades of Grey books, but I read all three of those fucking things and I'll be damned if anyone is taking those wasted hours away from me.
Anyway....
Goal Exceeded.
